What gets collected

A collection can be the whole purpose of a stop, or one part of a delivery visit.

  • Returns: damaged, wrong or unwanted goods going back for credit.
  • Empties: crates, trays, kegs and other returnable packaging.
  • Supplier pick-ups: stock collected on the round instead of delivered in.
  • Equipment: fridges, dispensers or display units coming back from a site.

What the record should show

A useful proof of collection answers the same questions as a POD, in reverse. What was taken, how many, in what condition, and who handed it over. Condition matters most: a return booked as resaleable stock when it is damaged costs money twice.

Why collections go missing

Collections are easy to under-record. The driver is busy, the empties go on the van without a count, and the credit note is raised later from memory. Recording at the door, with a count and a condition, is what keeps the customer’s balance and the stock figures right.
